How a Wedding Day Actually Runs

Three different rooms, three different technical problems, usually within six hours of each other. Here is what each one needs.

Ceremony The hardest audio of the day and the least forgiving. Vows are quiet, outdoor air eats sound, and there is exactly one take. A discreet PA, a lavalier on the officiant, and a mic for readings — plus a plan for wind if you are outside.
Cocktail hour Music that carries without shouting, in a space that is often a patio, a lawn, or a lobby with no power nearby. This is where battery-powered uplights and string lights earn their keep, because the room has to change while everyone is in it.
Reception Toasts have to be heard at every table, the band or DJ needs a real system with monitors, and the dance floor needs to feel different from dinner. One system, one technician, and cues that move the room from one to the other.

The Look, and What It Costs

Lighting is the line that decides how the photographs come out, and it is usually a smaller number than couples expect. Common Questions

Do we need a sound system if we have a DJ or a band?

Usually yes, for one specific reason: the ceremony and the toasts. A DJ brings a system built for the dance floor, and a band brings one built for the band — neither reliably includes a clean microphone for vows, readings, or a father-of-the-bride speech, and the ceremony is often in a different space entirely. We provide the ceremony PA and the speech microphones, and coordinate with your DJ or band so there is one clean handoff rather than two systems fighting.

How much does wedding lighting cost in Nashville?

From our published cost guide, an uplighting package of 10 to 20 fixtures runs about $500 to $1,500, which covers most reception rooms. String-light ceilings, chandeliers, and custom gobo monograms are quoted from the room because the hang — how high, how far, and what it attaches to — drives the labor. Can you do an outdoor ceremony with no power nearby?

Yes, and it is one of our most common requests. Battery-powered speakers and uplights cover a surprising amount of ground, and where they are not enough we bring our own power distribution. What matters more than the gear is the advance: we walk the site, find where the sound has to reach, and build a rain plan before the day rather than during it.

What is a gobo monogram?

A custom pattern projected by a light — usually your initials, names, or a wedding date — thrown onto a wall, a dance floor, or a ceiling. It is made to order from your artwork, so give us about a week where possible. It is one of the cheapest ways to make a plain room feel specifically like your wedding.

Do you work with our planner and venue?

Always, and it makes the day go better. We coordinate load-in windows with the venue, timeline with the planner, and power and placement with the caterer and florist so nothing lands in anyone else's way. In venues we have worked many times, we usually already know the dock, the breaker panel, and the house rules.

How far in advance should we book?

For a designed room, two to four months is comfortable, and peak Nashville wedding season — spring and fall weekends — books earliest. A ceremony PA and a simple uplighting package can often be arranged much closer to the date depending on inventory. If your date is close, call and we will tell you honestly what is still available.
