In the spring of 2020, high school seniors across the country watched their graduation vanish. Gyms shut down. Auditoriums locked. The moment they'd spent four years working toward — gone. One Nashville-area school refused to let that be the end of the story. They called Nashville Audio Visual.
The ask was straightforward and impossible at the same time: make this graduation happen. No venue. No indoor space. No blueprint. Just an athletic field, a class of seniors who deserved better, and a production company willing to figure it out.

— Nashville Audio VisualWe surveyed the field and built the plan around what the space gave us. Hundreds of white folding chairs laid out in precise rows, every seat exactly six feet from the next. A custom truss structure anchored the production end zone — rising two stories off the turf, supporting the full PA rig and video wall in a single clean frame that looked like it belonged on a concert stage.
What Is a Line Array?
A line array is a speaker system made up of multiple identical speaker modules stacked vertically and flown from a truss. Unlike a single cabinet pointed at a crowd, a line array shapes and directs sound in a narrow vertical beam — delivering consistent, even coverage from the front row to the back row with no drop-off in volume or clarity. For an outdoor event with hundreds of people spread across a field, there is no better tool. Every seat hears exactly the same thing.
Flanking the truss on each side, our line array columns delivered crisp, even audio coverage from the front row on the track all the way to the back of the field. No dead spots. No feedback. Every valedictorian speech, every name called, punching clean and clear across open air in a way that a simple PA stack never could.
LED Video Wall + IMAG
IMAG — Image Magnification — is the technique of putting a live camera feed on a large display so the audience can see the faces of speakers and performers in real time. In a venue this wide and deep, the students in the back rows would have seen tiny figures on a distant stage. With the LED video wall and live IMAG feed, every parent watching from the track, every student waiting for their name — they saw it all up close. The video wall turned a field into a front-row seat for everyone.
The LED video wall mounted at the top of the truss ran a live IMAG feed — every diploma handed, every handshake, every face captured and thrown ten feet tall for the entire audience to share. Families who couldn't sit close because of distancing rules still saw their child's face fill the screen at the exact moment their name was called.
Wireless Microphones Outdoors
Outdoor wireless mic setups require a different approach than indoor events. Wind, radio frequency interference, and the absence of reflective surfaces all change the equation. We deployed professional-grade wireless handhelds and lavalier systems with diversity receivers, ensuring clean, reliable audio pickup for every speaker — superintendents, principals, valedictorians — without the tail of a cable or the risk of a dropout mid-sentence.
By the time the ceremony started, that athletic field looked nothing like a Plan B. It looked like an event. Seniors walked across the stage to the sound of a PA system tuned for the open sky. Their names echoed across the field. Their faces filled the screen. Their families cheered in the June sun.
